Austintown - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio Jr. officiating, preceded by a 9:10 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for John Trimboli, 94, of Austintown, who served his country proudly in the United States Navy and passed away on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, 2014 which was a fitting tribute to such an honorable man and had his family by his side. John will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his outgoing personality, smile and community involvement. He was born March 11, 1920 in Eccles, West Virginia, the son of Dominic and Josephine (Caruso) Trimboli and moved to the Youngstown area in the mid 1940's. John served in the United States Navy during World War II from September 23, 1943 until he received his Honorable Discharge in December 8, 1945. Upon enlisting in the Navy as a Seabee 3rd mate machinist fireman and then was assigned after basic training to the 144th Battalion. After his service in the Navy, John went to work for the United Engineering for over 20 years. He then became a Union Representative for the United Steel Workers of America AFL-CIO and a Union Organizer for AFSCME. John then also worked for the Trumbull County Council on Alcoholism until he retired in 1983. He is a lifetime member of the Amvets Post #44, Veterans of Foreign War Post #9947 and the Italian American War Veterans Post #3. In 1985, John, Helen and Michael became snow birds at Palm Hill Country Club in Largo Florida, until present time. John was very active in his community and held many positions within all the organizations he was a member of. He was always loyal and proud to be part of these organizations which all held deep meaning to John and to mention some of them; the United Commercial Travelers of America he joined in 1962 their project is for the mentally challenged, its Mahoning County Council #233, the International Secretary Treasurer position for over 37 years, was part of the Grand Counselor 92nd Grand Session in 1981, the A.M.O.B. Guild, the N.R.A, the Youngstown Rifle and Pistol Club, the Boy Scout of America Troop #3 where he was committee man for numerous years, Sons of Italy Lodge #858 and the Mahoning County Council for the mentally challenged. He was awarded and was very proud to receive the Man of the Year Award from the Sons of Italy in America, State of Ohio and the Heart of America Reward from the Boy Scouts of America. John was an avid hunter and fisherman and he enjoyed gardening, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. He leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories his beloved wife of over 67 years the former Helen Mordocco whom he married on August 29, 1946, three children Dominic (Kimberly) Trimboli of North Jackson, Melanie (John) Opre and Delight (Frank) Orzechowski both of Canfield, seven grandchildren John Edward Trimboli, Tina Hitchcock, Dominic D., Mickey and Dominique Trimboli, and Tyler (Julia) and Raymond Opre, nine great grandchildren Tyler (Megan), Dominic Vincent, Ashlynn, Trey, Angelina, Dylan, Andrea, Emmeline, and Elijah, a great-great granddaughter Annabella Rae, a sister Jennie Bolash and a brother James (Nellie) Trimboli. Besides his parents John was preceded in death by a son Michael Trimboli, a sister Frances Slaughter and three brothers Charles Cangemi, Sam Cangemi and Michael Trimboli. Friends may call on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman and the Amvets Post #44 will hold a service at 6:50 p.m. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown, where full military honors will be held by the great men from the Trumbull County American Legion.
