Obituary

Poland - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mt. Carmel, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio Jr. as celebrant, preceded by a 9:10 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for Jonathan Paul "Jon" DeToro, 41, of Poland, who peacefully passed away Monday evening, with his loving family by his side after a courageous and long battle with kidney disease. Jonathan will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his strength, humbleness and fun loving personality. Even through his illness, Jonathan brought joy to others by socializing and talking with the other patients and staff at the Canfield Dialysis Center. He was born June 24, 1974, the son of Ralph A. DeToro Jr. and Theresa (LaPresta) DeToro and was a lifelong area resident. Jon was a 1994 graduate of Poland Seminary High School and attended Youngstown State University along with being a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica. Jonathan had many passions throughout his life. He enjoyed walking, going out to dinner and going to the movies. Jonathan was always current with all politics and current events in the news and would always enjoy discussing them everyone. He loved spending time with his aunts and all his nieces and nephews, but he especially enjoyed spending time with his sister Nicole and they had such a special bond that will never be broken. Jonathan leaves behind to hold onto his precious memories his mother Theresa A. DeToro of Poland, his brothers Ralph DeToro III of Poland, Christopher DeToro of Poland and Joseph (Christie) DeToro of Streetsboro, his sister Nicole DeToro of Poland, his nieces and nephews Kara, Gianna, Sam, Alex, Anna, Theresa, Alexis, Olivia, and Joey, two uncles Nick DiToro of Minnesota, and Bill (Emily) DeToro of Poland, four aunts Marian (Dan) Shelton of Houston, Texas and Joann King of Austintown, Gigi (Chick) Giannini of Austintown and Dee LaPresta of Struthers all whom he shared a special bond with along with numerous cousins and friends. Jonathan was preceded in death by his father Ralph A. DeToro Jr. whom he missed greatly, his paternal grandparents Ralph A. Sr. (Winifred) DeToro, maternal grandparents Sam (Daisy) LaPresta and two uncles Jack LaPresta and Tom King. Family and friends may pay their respects on what would have been Jonathan's 42nd birthday, Friday, June 24, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place at Poland Riverside Cemetery, Poland. Jonathan's family would like to extend their heart felt gratitude and thanks for all the care and compassion shown to them from all the doctors and especially the nurses of the 4th Floor Neurological ICU at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Youngstown.
