Joseph Vincent Amendolara, formerly of Youngstown, died peacefully at Hertage Manor on Friday, May 24, 2013. He was 95 years-old. He was born on December 15, 1917 on the East Side of Youngstown to Joseph and Maria Castranova Amendolara. He attended East High School and Case Western Reserve University, before serving as a Lieutenant in the navy during WWII. Joseph was very proud of his military service and was awarded the silver star, the legion of merit and the French Croix de Guerre for his actions in Italy, Africa and France during the D-Day invasions. He married the former Ada Dalesio, a naval nurse from Follansbee, West Virginia, on September 22, 1944. The two veterans were married 37 years until her death in 1980. Mr. Amendolara was co-owner of the Riptide Bar, a family venture, which served a loyal clientele during the heyday of the steel industry. Later he became part owner of Rondinelli Dry Cleaners and Tuxedo rental. Joseph, lovingly referred to as "Papa Joe", is survived by his son, Robert Amendolara (Colette) of Rhode Island, and his daughters: Patricia Rich of Girard, Anna Marie Amendolara of New Jersey; Jo Ellen (Jeff) Collier of Hudson; and Catherine Amendolara (Don Campbell) of New York. He also leaves eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his son, Paul Amendolara. Also deceased are his brothers, Samuel, George, Charles, and Tony and his sisters, Theresa DeGaetano and Catherine Amendolara all from the Youngstown-area. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Rose Church, Girard, at 12:00pm, on Monday, May 27, 2013. Friends offer their condolences to the family from 10-11:45 at St. Rose Church, prior to the service. The Amendolara family would also like to thank Joseph's caregivers, Kimberly Ward, Tonya Brooks and Doloris DePietro for their help and support during his last years.
