Youngstown - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio officiating, preceded by a 9:15 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for Joseph Calipare, 88, of Youngstown, who passed away Saturday, November 19, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Youngstown. Joseph will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends. He was born in Youngstown, the son of Pasquale and Carmela Calipare and was a lifelong area resident. Joseph retired after working for 40 years from Sheet & Tube and previously was employed at Metal Products. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Youngstown and the Pacentrano Club. Joseph was a United States Army Veteran of World War II where he earned the rank of Sergeant and was with the Headquarters Company 2nd. Battalion 275th. Infantry. He felt his greatest Honor was serving his country. He was awarded the following decorations and citations: the Silver Star for saving a Company of men from behind enemy lines, the Purple Heart after being shot and reported missing in action, the EAME Theater Ribbon with 5 Bronze Stars per WDGC#33/45, the Bronze Arrowhead, the Good Conduct Ribbon per GC#56, Hq15 Inf/44, the Croix de Guerre by the FR Prov Govt/45, the Distinguished Unit Citation per GC#44/45 and a Lapel Button Issued. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and was a sports enthusiast especially football and baseball. He was a proud fan of Cardinal Mooney High School along with the Cleveland Browns and Indians. He married the love of his life and high school sweetheart the former Betty V. Hallden on August 7, 1943 died June 28, 1996. He leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories two daughters Jody (Dan) Diorio of Boardman and Cheryl Grischow of Naples Florida, a grandson Daniel Diorio of Boardman, a sister Virginia Valenzisi and a sister-in-law Florence Hallden. Besides his wife and parents he was preceded in death by three brothers Mike Calipare, frank Calipare, and Thomas Morella, two sisters Jennie Colantuoni and Antoinette Palumbo, and his son-in-law John H. Grischow Jr. Friends may call on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Resurrection Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the great men of the Trumbull County American Legion.
