Youngstown - There will be a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, with Father Kevin Peters officiating, for Joseph R. "Joe" Collins, 87, of Youngstown, who passed early Friday morning, April 3, 2015 after a courageous 8 year battle with cancer, with his loving family by his side. Joe will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his smile and his outgoing and fun loving personality. He was born April 19, 1927 in Youngstown, the son of Earl Sr. and Mary (Meenachan) Collins and was a lifelong area resident. Jo was a 1945 graduate of East High School and retired after working for over 39 years with Commercial Innertech along with being a member of St. Angela Merci Parish (Sacred Heart Church). Joe was a proud United States Army Veteran of World War II where he earned the rank of Private First Class and was awarded the following decorations; the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He received an Honorable Discharge on January 20, 1947 at the Separation Center Camp Beale, California. Joe enjoyed going to the track, playing cards singing his favorite Irish songs and was very talented in doing woodwork. He leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories his beloved wife of over 65 years the former Mary Jo Naples, whom he married on June 4, 1949, three sisters Mary Benart of Alliance, Agnes Myers of Youngstown and Lois D'Amico of Youngstown, a brother Patrick (Patricia) Dixon of Youngstown and a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Besides his parents, Joe was preceded in death by five brothers Thomas, Edward, Raymond, Earl Jr. and Jack Collins and a sister Dona Prochak. Friends may call on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown. In lieu of flowers, Joe's family requests that material contributions be made to the Hospice of the Valley's Hospice House, 9803 Sharrot Road, Poland, Ohio 44514. Joe's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at the Hospice House for their compassionate and loving care during this difficult journey.
