Obituary

Boardman - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Dr., Boardman, with Father Michael Marcelli officiating, for Joseph S. "Papa Joe" Horvath, 83, of Boardman, who passed away Thursday evening with his family by his side. Papa Joe will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his great personality and sense of humor and the loved he always showed to his family. He was born May 14, 1930 in Youngstown, the son of Joseph and Anna (Varga) Horvath and was a lifelong area resident. Joseph started his work career at Republic Steel Company as a crane operator and then worked for Evan's Carpet as an installer and retired in 1994 from General Motors Lordstown Fabrication Plant. He attended South High School and was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. Joseph was a member of St. Charles Church, the Cursillo movement, and the UAW Local 1714. Papa Joe had many passions and enjoyments in life and they were hunting, fishing, camping every summer with his grandchildren when they were young, taking videos of his grandchildren's events and family wedding, working in his garden along with playing Santa Claus every Christmas for his family. He leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories his beloved wife of over 62 years the former Phyllis Arditi whom he married September 1, 1951, his children Pattie (Steve) Hill of Liberty, Joe Horvath of Boardman, Donna (Nick) Petrella of Austintown and Steve Horvath of Youngstown, his grandchildren Christy, Craig and Carla Hill, Preston Gealy, Michele (Ben) Butwin, Michael Firmstone, Nicole (Phil) Liberto and Monica and Nick Petrella, his great grandchildren Gino Gealy, Jacob and Ryan Butwin and Baylor and Brynlee Liberto, a sister Jenny (Dave) Rusu of Struthers, and many nieces, nephews and cousins along with his very close cousin John Lesnansky. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may call on Tuesday morning, February 25, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Dr., Boardman. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman.
