Poland - There will be Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown, with Father Chris Luoni and Monsignor Peter Polando officiating for Joseph "Ace" LoCicero, 88, who passed away August 30, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boardman. Joseph will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his passion and love he had always shown to everyone. He was born November 22, 1925 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Joseph and Mary LoCicero and was a lifelong area resident. Joseph was a 1944 graduate of Ursuline High School where he was an All City and All County football player. He also attended Youngstown College where he played football under Dwight "Dike" Beede and had received numerous football scholarships across the country. His great inspiration and mentor was the late Nick Johnson. Joseph served as a Sergeant First Class/Tank Commander in the U.S. Army in the 5th Infantry Division from 1950 to 1952 and received the Korean Service Medal, two bronze stars and the United Nations Service Medal. He was a former member of St. Dominic Church, where he and his wife taught CCD classes, and he was a current member of St. Paul the Apostle Church. Upon Joseph completing his Cursillo, he remained active in the Cursillo Movement. Joseph retired from the Youngstown School System as a teacher after 38 years and was an active teacher for an additional ten years. He was a member of the Mahoning & Trumbull County Beagle Club and the Shenango Valley Beagle Club for 40 years. He was also a member of the Miraculous Medal of Mary. He enjoyed gardening, wildlife and nature, running his dogs, and spending time with his family. Joseph loved the lunches with his football friends, his Saturday family get togethers, and going out twice a week with his son Dave. He leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories his four children: Dee (George) Pitko, Dave LoCicero, Joe LoCicero and Carl (Renee) LoCicero all of Poland, four grandchildren Christie (Pete) Pitko-Villoti, Aaron Pitko, and Rachel and Maria LoCicero. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Susan C. LoCicero whom he married August 28, 1950 and who passed away November 23, 2012, two brothers John and Peter LoCicero and four sisters Teresa Castro, Jay Flick, Frances Longo and Bea Martino. Family and friends may call Wednesday from 9:00 to 9:50 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown. A Christian mass will follow. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans 4268 Patricia Ave. Youngstown, Ohio 44511 or the Alzheimer's Association 3695 Boardman-Canfield Rd. Canfield, Ohio 44406. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. Boardman.
