Canfield - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael Church, 281 Glenview Dr., Canfield, with Father Terrence Hazel officiating for Josephine Schewirey Virgalitte, 89, of Canfield, who passed away early Sunday morning, October 14, 2012. Josephine will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends. She was born June 16, 1923 in Youngstown the daughter of Harvey and Nora (Dummar) Schewirey and was a lifelong area resident. Josephine received her Bachelor and Master Degrees in Education from Youngstown State University. She enjoyed being a teacher and taught at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in McDonald, St. Paul School in Salem and retired in 1988 from Newton Falls School System. Josephine was an active member of St. Michael Church and its Altar Guild, the Exercise Group, the Garden Guild, and the RSVP Arts and Crafts. She also was a member of ITAM Auxiliary, Mahoning and Trumbull Counties Retired Teachers Associations, AARP #3104 and the YSU Alumni. Her husband Mitchell "Mike" Virgalitte whom she married April 9, 1948 died January 9, 1990. She leaves behind to hold on to her memories a daughter Michele Virgalitte of College Station, Texas and a granddaughter Kirstin Virgalitte of Dublin, Ohio. Josephine would like to thank her sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends for all the loving care and compassion shown to her during her life. Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son Michael Virgalitte, four brothers George, Fred, Harvey, and Bob Schewirey, and a sister Rose marie Houck. Family and friends may call on Friday, October 19, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:25 p.m. all at St. Michael Church, Canfield. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens, Canfield.
