Boardman - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 2729 Center Rd., Poland with the Rev. Msgr. William Connell officiating, for Joseph John "Joe Dee" DeFiore, 91, of Boardman, who departed this life on Monday, October 28, 2013 after a short illness. Joe will always be remembered and loved by his family for his out-going personality and sincerity, his great head of hair and smile. He was extremely proud of his Italian heritage. He was born November 12, 1921 in Youngstown , the son of Ignazio and Rose (Ferranti) DeFiore, attended East High School, and was a lifelong area resident Joe had a great work ethic from a young age, growing up during the Great Depression he joined the Civilian Conservation Core (CCC) that sent him to Montana where he built roads and fought forest fires. He married the love of his life, Jennie. Joe served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was deployed to the coast of Africa aboard the USS Electra. Upon discharge from the Navy, Joe was employed for over 35 years with Truscon Steel Company. He retired in 1975. Joe was a charter member of St. Luke Catholic Church, a member of the Sons of Sicily and served a variety of positions as a member of the VFW Post #8841. Joe was an avid card player, enjoyed traveling with his wife, Jennie, but especially loved his family and participating in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's lives. His wife the former Jennie Dolores D'Ercole whom he married on June 27, 1942, passed away after 71 years of marriage on September 8, 2013. Joe leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories three children Rose Marie (Joseph) Patin of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Joseph John Jr. (Carole) DeFiore of Poland, and Dolores (James) Hellman of Boardman, ten grandchildren, Joseph (Nancy) Patin, Karla (Peter) Kooken, Deneen (Robert) McGarvey, Jolene (Rob) Hyrmer, Carlene (Jason) Gilmore, Joseph John III (Lisa) DeFiore, Justine DeFiore, Joseph Hellman, Nicholas (Kelly) Hellman and Jennifer (Joseph) Hudak, and sixteen great-grandchildren. Besides Joe's parents and wife he was preceded in death by two brothers Peter and Michael DeFiore. Friends may call on Friday, November 1, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown. In lieu of flowers material contributions may be made in Joe's name to MVI Hospice 4891 Belmont Ave., Youngstown, Ohio 44505.
