Poland - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Dominic Church, 77 E. Lucius Ave, Youngstown, preceded by a 9:20 am prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for Joycelyn "Joy" Brunner, 78, of Poland who passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015 with her loving family by her side. Joy will always be loved and remembered by her family and friends as a fun-loving adventurer with a fondness for living life to the fullest. She was born November 23, 1936 in Youngstown, the daughter of Larry and Marie (Vecchione) DiLoreto. Joy was a graduate of St. Dominic's School and Ursuline High School. She pursued her dream of becoming a nurse and graduated as an R.N.from St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing. After graduating, shejoined the U.S. Air Force and proudly served our country as a flight nurse earning the rank of 1st Lieutenant. She was stationed at the Clinton Sherman Air Force Base in Clinton, OK,where she set up the first medical clinic on the newly established base. It was here where she met her husband, Keith.As a young working mother of three, Joy attended Youngstown State University and received a Bachelor's Degree in Health Education and a Master's Degree in Health Administration from Youngstown State University. She was an R.N at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Youngstown prior to working for theYoungstown Catholic Diocese as a school nurse at Ursuline High School, St. Dominic's, St. Brendan's, St. Patrick's and St. Christine's grade schools.She initiated the first blood drives held in high schools. One of Joy's passions was helping others. Joy was an active volunteer for the Mahoning County Chapter of the American Red Cross helping with blood drives and assisting those in need after the Hubbard tornado in 1985. She also was a volunteer for Hospice ofthe Valley, Victorian Players, Powers Theater and Ursuline High School bingo.She was awarded the 1993 Distinguished Alumna Award from Ursuline High School. Joy enjoyed watching football, fireworks and going to casino's as often as she could.She also was a huge fan of Coca-Cola. For over fifty-five years, she enjoyed attending and hosting monthly card club with her Ursuline friends. She also met with her friends from nursing school on a regular basis. She was a member of St. Dominic Church and Holy Family Church in Poland, OH. Joy leaves to cherish her precious memory, her beloved husband, Keith F. Brunner, Sr. whom she married November 26, 1960, her three children, daughter Karen Brunner of Columbus, OH, and two sons Keith, Jr. and Ken (Debbie) Brunner all of Poland, OH, brother Larry DiLoreto of Cleveland, OH, sisters Jean (Ron) DiVincenzo of Boardman, OH and Jan DiLoreto of Scottsdale, AZ, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Joy was preceded in death by her parents-in-law Frederick and Genevieve (Schannenk) Brunner, brother-in-law Patrick (Peggy) Brunner, sister-in-law Mary Brunner and niece Cathleen DiVincenzo. Family and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Rossi &Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and the staff of University Hospitals, Cleveland, OH for their knowledge, patience and care of Joy, to Hospice of the Valley for their excellent care and compassion and to her caregivers, cousin, Judy Darmo of Steubenville, OH and caregiver Birdie Vantell of Youngstown for their love and dedication. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that tributes be made in Joy's name to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, Ohio 44512.
