Obituary

Youngstown - Juan "Principe" Jose Gerardino Luchessi, 90, passed away peacefully February 24, 2015 at the home of his son Miguel in Newton Falls. He was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, May 19, 1924, the son of the late Pedro Celestino Gerardino and Margarita Luchessi Gerardino. On April 28, 1947, Juan married the late Floria Maria Rodriguez with whom he spent 20 years together. Juan worked 14 years in Puerto Rico for a medical equipment repair company. He then owned and operated his own business, Antille Hospital Equipment Repair in Puerto Rico for over 20 years. He lived in New Jersey where he started Electronics for Hospital. Upon moving to Ohio, he was employed by Youngstown Electric Company as an electrical engineer. Juan lived in Youngstown since 1974 where he enjoyed going to the Sons of Borinquen Club to socialize with friends and acquaintances. He also spent a lot of time on the eastside of Youngstown and often attended the First Hispanic Evangelical Church where he enjoyed listening to Rev. Cruz Collazo. He shared many happy times with his daughter Lourdes going out to restaurants and stores. Juan was a genius. There was nothing he couldn't repair or modify. He worked with precision and patience on cars, boilers, furnaces, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and electronics. He loved to read and have profound intellectual conversations with his son Miguel. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved sons and daughters, Juan J. (Lucy), Walter, Federico (Deborah), Miguel A. (Colleen), Milton, Jorge (Theresa), David, Isai, Benjamin (Rachel), Diana, Lourdes (Confesor) Febres, Evelyn, Hilda (William) Weightman, Mildred, Wanda, and Olga, 45 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. Juan was preceded in death by his brothers Luis, Miguel, Federico, Pedro E. and sisters LydiaTruss and Hilda Mallory. The family will receive friends at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman with calling hours on Friday, March 6, 2015, from 5 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be from 6 to 8 p.m. with Pastor Noemi Lopez. Family and friends will gather together to pay their final respects from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 7., 2015 at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Juan will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Boardman. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that any donations please be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 market St., Boardman, or the charity of your choice.
