Karen Sue
George
Jan 13, 1947 — Jul 14, 2026
Poland — Karen Sue George, 79, of Poland, passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday morning, July 14, 2026, with her family by her side.
Karen will always be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and spunky personality. She will be especially remembered for her signature phrase, "What scoop do you have to tell me?"
Karen was born on January 13, 1947, in Youngstown, the daughter of Vaughn and Hallie (Dugan) Himes. She was a lifelong area resident and a 1965 graduate of Poland Seminary High School.
In addition to being a devoted homemaker, Karen enjoyed a successful career in sales for more than 45 years with Strouss, Kaufmann's, and later Macy's Department Stores, retiring in 2019.
She was a faithful member of Struthers Parkside Church.
Karen had many passions throughout her life. She loved caring for her home, gardening, socializing with her many friends, and relaxing in her favorite chair with her beloved fur babies, Benson and Buddy. Above all, Karen treasured time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to attend their activities and special events, and nothing brought her greater joy than cheering them on.
Karen leaves to cherish her memory her children, Kelly (Mark) Planey, Erik (Cheryl) George, Jason (Wendy) Kouvaras and Nicole (Steve) Wasosky; her grandchildren, Zachary (Katy) Easterbrook, Miranda Easterbrook, Mason Planey and his fiancée, Kenna, Mark Jr. and Ryan Planey, Dylan George, Claud Abrera, Benjamin, Nathan, and Alexander Wasosky, Payton and Kendall Kouvaras; her great grandchildren Jackson and Nate Horner; her beloved dog, Benson, and cat, Buddy; along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tony Kouvaras, and her two brothers, Terry Himes and Mickey Himes.
In keeping with Karen's wishes, there will be no calling hours or public services. Her family will hold a private celebration of her life at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman.
Karen's warmth, laughter, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
