North Carolina - Kenneth Angelo Popio, M.D., 70 of Chapel Hill, NC, formerly of Youngstown, who passed away Thursday, April 19t, 2012 after a long struggle with poor health. Dr. Popio was born June 08, 1941 to the late Leonard and Doris (Fronius) Pupio of Youngstown, OH. He graduated from Chaney High School in 1958. After graduating from Youngstown University he continued his studies in medicine at Columbia University specializing in Cardiology and Internal Medicine. He was commissioned as a Captain in the Navy Medical Corps serving in the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Ga. He later practiced in several locales concentrating his efforts on research in cardiology before making his home in North Carolina. He is survived by his three sons, Christopher (Heather) of Chicago, IL, Nicholas of Cary, N.C. and Andrew of Raleigh, N.C., as well as one grandson, Alec. two brothers, Larry (Linda) and Lee Pupio and his sister, Valerie Pupio. A memorial service will be held on June the 9, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Shrine of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted, 517 S. Belle Vista. His family welcomes his friends to please attend.
