Virginia Beach, Virginia - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Youngstown, with Father Matthew Albright officiating, preceded by a 9:15 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman for Lola Leone, 91, who passed away on April 30, 2014 at Sunstream Home Care in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Lola was born on April 12, 1923 in Pettorano Sul Gizio in Abruzzo, Italy, the daughter of Pasquale and Margherita (Susi) Bonitatibus. After completing her primary and secondary education in Italy, she immigrated to the United States in 1950 settling in Weirton, W. Va. She married Pasquale Leone on December 30, 1950 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Weirton, W. Va. and then moved to Youngstown. Lola worked with her husband at the Leone Travel Service from 1965 until their retirement in 1984. She also taught Italian classes at various locations in Mahoning County. She was employed by Shoney's from 1992 to 1994. She moved to Chesapeake, Virginia in 2004. She was extremely proud of her Italian heritage and along with her husband, did much to promote and preserve Italian culture in the Mahoning Valley. As much as she loved her native land, one of the proudest days of her life was December 2, 1958, when she became an American citizen. She leaves a daughter Itala (Michael) Landers of Canfield, Ohio and a son, Victor (Maura) Leone of Chesapeake, Virginia, five grandchildren: James (Karin Chadwick) Landers of New York City, Marc (Diane) Landers of Houston, Texas, Kalie, Carolina, and Isabella Leone of Chesapeake, Virginia, and one great grandchild, Marlaina Landers of Houston, Texas. She also leaves two sisters, Elsa Zelano of Rome, Italy, and Ilde Sarra of Sulmona, Italy, a brother Ivo Bonitatibus of Rome, Italy, and several nieces and nephews in Weirton, W. Va. and Italy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pasquale, on February 17, 1992 and sisters Armida Iannamorelli of Sulmona, Italy, Flavio Bonitatibus of Cortona, Italy and Vera D'Alesio of Weirton, W. Va. Friends may call on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place at Lake Park Cemetery, Youngstown.
