Canfield - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael Church, Canfield, with Father Terrance Hazel officiating, preceded by an 8:45 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi& Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for Louis A. Rich, 81, of Canfield, who passed away on Tuesday evening, May 1, 2012 surrounded by his loving family at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Louis will always be remembered and loved by his family for being a great provider, always making time for them and having the special Sunday dinner, along with always going out of his way to take care and love them. He enjoyed going to all his grandchildren's events, especially their sporting events and was always one of the first ones in the stands. He was born February 9, 1931 in Youngstown the son of Joseph and Clara (Vitacula) Rich. Louis was a graduate of North High School where he was King of his class and excelled on their football team. He was named All City for football in 1943 which lead to a full scholarship to Mount Union College where he continued his football career. He was proud to be part of the United States Marine Corps where he earned the rank of Private First Class. Louis retired in 1992 from the Cement Masons and Plasterers Local #179 as a business manager and was also a trustee for to both the health and pension funds. He was active at the YMCA of Youngstown and enjoyed playing racquetball with his friends. He was a member of the Italian American War Veterans of Youngstown and a charter member of St. Michael Church. He leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories his beloved wife of over 59 years the former Anna M. Flask whom he married on January 17, 1953, four sons Joseph (Nancy) Rich of Columbiana, Louis Jr. (Kelly) Rich and Donald (Melissa) Rich both of Canfield, and James (April) Rich of Youngstown, and his six loving grandchildren Alyssa, Angeline, Dominic, Emma, Sophia, and Alex Rich. Louis was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may call on Friday, May 4, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown. The Rich family would like to thank the Veteran Administration for all their help during Louis illness.
