Obituary

Poland - There will be a funeral service held on Saturday, February 7, 2014 at 11:30 am at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio officiating, for Lucie (DiCioccio) "Sassy" DePerro, 87, of Poland, passed away peacefully Monday evening surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 4, 1927, in Youngstown, Ohio the daughter of John and Agata (Pizzoferrato) DiCioccio and was a lifelong area resident. She was a graduate of East High School class of 1945, being one of the first girls to drive in her class. She was one of the most talented seamstress of her time creating and designing clothes, hats, suits, wedding gowns, and whatever anyone asked of her! She was happiest at her sewing machine. She also worked for Plakie Toys where she designed and hand painted baby toys for many years. Lucie was simple but strong in life. Always making sure she was giving of her time and love to others especially her granddaughters and family.She truly enjoyed her granddaughter's activities, Poland sporting events, and was able to see them mature and grow into wonderful women. Making chocolate chip cookies was a simple specialty for Lucie unless her favorite TV show NCIS was on. She was married on September 27, 1947 to John DePerro the "love of her life". They spent 60 loving years together, until he passed away in 2007. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Sandra (Paul) Bates of Poland and her granddaughters Candace Bates of Victoria, British Columbia and Ashley Bates of Chicago, IL, a great-grandson Kingston Vaughn and two sisters Lilla "Lee" Napolitan and Mary (James) Rich along with her pet companion Diego. Besides her husband John she was preceded in death by her brother Robert (Doc) DiCioccio and her sister Sylvia Glass. Also a very special thank you to our wonderful friend Debbie V. Her nursing skill enabled Lucie to receive exceptional, loving, and personal care that gave her the best comfort anyone could ask for. On Lucie's behalf her family wishes to thank the nurses and staff aids of Greenbriar Rehabilitation and the staff at Hospice of the Valley for their kindness and care during her illness.
