Youngstown-Marlene Beene,75 There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mt. Carmel, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio Jr. as celebrant, preceded by a 9:15 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for Marlene Beene,75, who passed away Wednesday morning at the Cleveland Clinic. Marlene will always be remembered by her family and friends for her zest for life, her smile and happy personality. She was born August 30, 1941 in Youngstown, the daughter of Vincent and Mary Bahny Serra and was a lifelong area resident. Marlene was a 1959 graduate of East High School and afterwards worked as a receptionist at a doctor's office then spent most of her life as a homemaker taking care of her family. She was a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish; was a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Italian War Veteran's Post #3; bench mother and coach for the Austintown Girls Softball League for 10 years; was on the committee and bartended for Youngstown Italian Fest. She and her husband John bowled in many leagues including, Belwick, Boardman and Marhill lanes. She loved to cook, garden, she enjoyed making wine with her husband, and that their wine won awards at the Warren Italian festival, enjoyed her women's card clubs and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. She leaves behind to hold onto her precious memories her husband of 55 years John Beene whom she married on July 15, 1961. She will also be greatly missed by her two daughters, Michele (Tim) Lowry of Canfield, Christine (Scott) Smith of Hanoverton; two brothers, Vincent (Dolores) Serra of Swanton, OH, Nicholas (Michelle) Serra of Wadsworth, OH; her six grandchildren, Austin, Chase and Broc Lowry of Canfield, Alexandra, Drew and Cassidy Smith of Hanoverton. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents. Family and friends may pay their respects from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman.
