Youngstown - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio officiating, preceded by an 9:15 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for Mary Jane Agnes (Gualtieri) Sacchini, 88, of Youngstown, who peacefully passed away on Thursday afternoon, May 15, 2014 with her loving family by her side. Mary Jane will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends for her willingness to help others, her kind heart and how she always put everyone else's needs first. She was born December 18, 1925 in Dover, Ohio, the daughter of Gianfelice and Condita (Santelli) Gualtieri and moved to the Youngstown area in 1945. Mary Jane was a 1943 graduate of St. Joseph High School in Dover and attended Youngstown College for two years in the School of Education. She was a proud homemaker and her family will miss her wonderful cooking of all Italian Dishes and especially her wans. Mary Jane has promoted Italian customs, language and studies by personal action. She helped students and friends in helping them understand the Italian contributions and accomplishments to our world civilization and American history. This was done by informing the general public of Italian American contributions and bringing them together to form networks of information on sharing projects. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, and was active within her community where she served on various boards, she served as President Reserve Officers Association Ladies for two terms, as President of the Youngstown East High Faculty Wives from 1966 -1968, served as president of the Youngstown Educator Wives in 1970, was assigned to the Youngstown University Alumni Association as a life-long member, was past member of the Committees on the Youngstown Wolves Club Den VI, was active president of the Pratola Peligna Association of Italy for selecting Church Holidays, was a member of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Italian Fest for 4 years, was co-author on the Italian Cook Book with recipes for Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and served as Founder, Treasurer and Secretary of the Youngstown Mill Creek Citizens Committee Inc. Mary Jane was a humble woman, but enjoyed traveling to Italy to see family, going fishing with her husband, gardening, hosting family parties on the holidays and her great story telling which all enjoyed and will miss. Her husband Lt. Colonel Joseph Louis Sacchini, whom she married June 19, 1948 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, died December 14, 2011. She leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories a son Joseph John (Lisa) Sacchini Ph.D., of Aldie, Virginia, two grandsons Joseph Robert and Jimmie Tyler Sacchini both of Aldie, Virginia, two sisters Mary Carducci of Youngstown and Lucille Baad of Dover and a sister-in-law Sylvia Gustinella of Boardman, along with numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband Mary Jane was preceded in death by two sisters Erma Petrella and Annie Lorenz and a brother Edward Gualtieri. Friends may call on Monday, May 19, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown. In lieu of flowers material contributions can be made in Mary Jane's name to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 343 Via Mount Carmel, Youngstown, Ohio 44505.
