Nicholas Joseph
"Nick" Petrarca
February 26, 1914 – December 12, 2014
Nicholas Joseph "Nick" Petrarca, 100, of Youngstown, went home to the Lord on Friday, December 12, 2014. Nick was an unselfish man of simple pleasures who loved his family and friends . When most people went to high school, Nick had to go to a street corner to help is older brother sell newspapers to help support his mother, then recently widowed, and his siblings. Nick was born February 26th, 1914 in Youngstown (Brier Hill) where he spent his entire life. As a young married man he supported his family with a series of small businesses and activities which included, restaurants, bars, poultry market, used car lots, cars washes, country music shows, a shoe store, construction companies and finally real estate investment. Hard work and responsibility were his guidelines. When he recognized a need, he was quick to raise significant funds, especially for the mentally disabled children in Mahoning County. He was named Man of the Year by Boys Town of Italy for his work with them. He was singled out by the then columnist of the Youngstown Vindicator, Esther Hamilton for his charitable works as she described him as a "quick wit with a twinkle in his eye". He was truly a giving person. He lived his life by being friendly and fair. Nick was preceded in death by his loving wife Lucille, of 64 years, and all of his siblings, Paul, Josephine, Carmel, Phyllis and Anne. He is survived by his son Tony, and daughter-in- law Lennie of Akron, daughter Joyce, son Thomas and daughter-in -law Angela, his dedicated grandchildren Anthony, Jim, Lisa and Nicole, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all of the dedicated caregivers who provided such compassionate service, care and comfort during the last years of his life. Calling hours will be at Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, Ohio 44512, on Monday December 15th, from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
