Obituary

There will be a memorial service held on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman for Olga Alice (Bodnar) Hay of Boardman died Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Boardman after a brief hospitalization. Herdeath, of complications from an intestinal blockage, came six weeks shy ofher 90th birthday. Olga Hay was born August 8, 1922 in Somerville, New Jersey, the oldest daughter of Peter and Mary (Hasiuk) Bodnar. When she was six months old her family moved back to Youngstown, Ohio, where she grew up. Olga graduated from East High School in 1940, and then went to work at Triangle Raincoat Company from 1940 to 1943. During World War II, for 18 months in 1944 and 1945, she worked at Sheet & Tube Company in Youngstownas a recorder and crane operator in the Open Hearth department. Olga married Joseph C. Hay Jr. on April 23, 1942, while he was on military leave during the war. After the war, Joe returned to work in the steel mill, retiring in 1978. During the mid-1950s, Olga was a seamstress, doing alterations for Bride and Formal Shop in Youngstown. From 1966 to 1973, she worked in the sewing department of Plakie Toy Company in Boardman. They had three children, and spent more than 60 years together until hisdeath on October 18, 2002. Olga leaves three children, Barbara Van Sack Mazzei (husband Paul) of Maryland, Jean Hay Bright (husband David Bright) of Maine, and Joseph C. Hay of Canfield; a sister Helen Kiolbassa (husband Joseph) of California; six grandchildren, John Van Sack (wife Lorelei) of South Carolina, Cindi Van Sack Quinn of Pennsylvania, Rebecca Heavrin and Dagan Heavrin (wife Galen), both of Seattle, Chauncey Hay of Struthers, and Kayla Hay of Canfield. Great-grandchildren include the Quinns, Andrew, Lacey, Afton, Baili andJoseph; and Jacqueline Van Sack. She also leaves sisters-in-law MarthaBodnar of Arizona, and Virginia Hay West Seman (husband James) of Columbus, Ohio, and brothers-in-law Pete Briach of Boardman and Joseph Kiolbassa of California. Nieces include Linda Bodnar Mulkins (husband Dale) of Washington, Jolene Kiolbassa (husband Daniel Heinzen) of Texas, and Laura Kiolbassa Gaynor(husband Bruce) of Seattle; and nephew Bill Bodnar of Oregon. Great-nieces include Carly Bodnar, Sophia Heinzen and Sierra Gaynor. Olga was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (2002), her brother Ted Bodnar, sister Anne Briach (2010), brothers-in-law Harry West, Eugene Hay, Wesley Foulke; sisters-in-law Betty Hay, Catherine Hay Foulke; son-in-law Ronald Van Sack (2003), and grandson Michael Van Sack (2001). Friends may call on Sunday, June 24, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. until 1:55 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Boardman.
