Obituary

Youngstown - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. at Saint Edward Parish, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Robert J. Siffrin V.G. officiating, for Peggy Sabatine, 89, who passed away peacefully at her home on January 30th. Peggy was born above her father's grocery store on Oak Street on December 16, 1926 in Youngstown, the daughter of Nicola and Ersulia (DeSalvo) Marinelli. She was a 1944 graduate of The Rayen School and attended Youngstown College. Prior to her marriage to Richard Sabatine in 1947, she worked for the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company as a secretary, Hartzell's Rose & Sons, the Joy Shop and her sister's store, Masi's Department Store. She was a lifelong member of Saint Edward Parish and was active in various fundraising and volunteer activities over the years, including the Saint Edward Confraternity of Christian Mothers, Ohio State University Mothers, Camp Fire Girls, Boy Scouts and Ursuline High School. Peggy loved her family and friends, and well known for her warmth, generosity and ebullient personality. She took immense pleasure in cooking Italian food for family and friends throughout her lifetime. She was always willing to add an extra place at the dinner table foranyone visiting or her children's friends, and everyone was forced to have a second helping ofspaghetti or to bring a plate home with them. Peggy had that certain unique way about her where she not only lit up any room she walked into, but always left everyone feeling upbeat and happier after being around her. In1999, she was proud to be a two-time winner on the Ohio Lottery Cash Explosion show. She enjoyed babysitting for her grandchildren when they were young, travelling to visit family in Florida and California, and was a dedicated fan of the Cleveland Indians. Her husband of 59 years, Richard Sabatine, a prominent local masonry contractor, preceded her in death in 2006. She is survived by her daughter, Carole Sabatine of Chagrin Falls, and sons, Rich Sabatine of Youngstown, James (Jody) Sabatine of Canfield and Jeff Sabatine of Cleveland; five grandchildren, James Sabatine, Jr. of Canfield, Jeana Sabatine of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Joseph Sabatine of Canfield, JR Rudicil of Columbus and Jamie Rudicil of Cleveland; her sister, Ada Horner of Downey, California, and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, Jane Masi, Erma Tondo, Mary Ferraro, Nellie Medley, Rose Santagata and Helen Barillaire; and brothers Fred Marinelli, John Marinelli and Arthur Marinelli.
