Obituary

Austintown - There will be a funeral service held on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 1463 Shields Rd., Canfield, with Pastor Burl Jernigan officiating for Philip L. Nespeca Sr., 86, of Austintown, who passed away Sunday evening, March 31, 2013 with his family by his side. Philip will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his smile and sense of humor always ready to tell a great joke. He was born October 24, 1926 in Youngstown, Ohio the son of Ernest and Vittoria (Vagonne) Nespeca and was a lifelong area resident. Philip was employed for over 38 years at Truscon Steel as a painter and retired in 1980. He was a 1944 graduate of East High School and a former active member of Westside Baptist Church and a current member of Calvary Baptist Church upon their merger. He also was a member of the VFW Post 8841 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles 4298. Philip enjoyed dancing, listening to Polka music and playing golf along with bocce at St. Anthony's in Struthers. He was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II where he earned the rank of Seaman Second Class. Philip was awarded the following decorations the Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal. His wife the former Mary Tucker whom he married October 14, 1987 died May 22, 2001. He leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories a son Philip L. Nespeca Jr. (Kathy Welsh) of Florida, a daughter Deborah (Nespeca) Dickson of Canfield a step son Mitchell (Jane) Tucker of Girard, three grandchildren Frank (Heather) Iaconis, Michelle Iaconis and Michael (Angie) Tucker, five great grandchildren Katie and Dominic Iaconis and Haley, Ashton and Taylor Tucker, a brother Ernest "Ernie" (Donna) Nespeca of Florida, a sister Anna (Ray) Clement of Youngstown and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife Philip was preceded in death by a son Ernie Nespeca, a daughter Brenda Iaconis, and a step son James Tucker. Friends may call on Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman and on Friday, April 5, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:25 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 1463 Shields Rd. Burial will take place at Lake Park Cemetery, Youngstown with full military honors provided by the great men of the Trumbull County American Legion.
