Obituary

Youngstown - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio officiating, preceded by a 9:15 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for Phyllis L. (Davanzo) Pelly, 91, of Youngstown, who passed away Tuesday morning, September 11, 2012 with her loving family by her side. Phyllis will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends for being an exceptional mother, grandmother, great grandmother and homemaker. She was born December 6, 1920 in Youngstown, the daughter of Nicholas and Lucia (Amicone) Davanzo and was a lifelong area resident. Phyllis was raised in Smokey Hollow by her aunt and uncle, Carmella and Nick Bucci after her mother passed away. She attended The Rayen School and was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, its Mother's of Crucifix Society, St. Monica Guild along with being an honorary member of the church choir. Phyllis was a homemaker and after her beloved husband Frank passed away she continued the business as owner/operator of Pelly's Appliance Store. She then was a proud worker for over 30 years at Rulli Bros. Market until her 85 birthday and thought of them as her second family. The people she served will remember her contagious smile and willingness to share solutions to the questions "what should I make for supper?" including what to buy and how to prepare it. She loved being of service to her customers. She loved to socialize and travel and always celebrated life to the fullest with all she did. Her family was the center of her life and will dearly miss all her excellent cooking especially her chicken and pea sauce, chicken franchise and zucchini patties, which were just some of her specialties. She always made Christmas day very special by doing all the cooking and the entire family would gather at her home to enjoy each other and the Italian traditions. Phyllis married, the love of her life, Frank A. Pelly Jr. on October 11, 1941. They shared their life with family and friends until his death on March 13, 1972. She leaves behind to hold on to her precious memories her children Mary Lou (Carl) Carbon of Poland, Teresa Marie (George "Bud") Bosela of Wellington, Ohio, and Frank A. III (Lina) Pelly of Poland, eight grandchildren Dina Pelly, Carl (Melanie) Carbon, Frank (Sharon) Carbon, Marrissa (Dan) Patrone, Elizabeth Bosela (FiancAC. Tom Agresti), Margaret (Mike) Klinzing, Michael (Alicia) Bosela, and George Bosela, sixteen great grandchildren, and two sisters Carmella "Dolly" Catanzaro of Youngstown, and Catherine "Kate" Sorice of Florida. Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a brother Michael Davanzo. Friends may call on Friday, September 14, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, where the Mother's of Crucifix Society will hold a prayer service at 5:00p.m. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
