Obituary

Youngstown - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Friday, May 29, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mt. Carmel, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio Jr. as celebrant and the Very Rev. Msgr. Peter Polando as con-celebrant, preceded by a 9:10 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, Rachel M. (Bellino) Sammartino, 92, of Youngstown, who passed away early Tuesday morning with her loving family by her side. Rachel will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends for her smile and pleasant personality. She was born January 27, 1923 in Youngstown the daughter of Nicola and Rose (Bonamase) Bellino and was a lifelong area resident. Rachel was extremely proud of being a homemaker. She was so attentive and supportive to her husband, children and grandchildren in all of their endeavors. Everyone will miss all of her great cooking and baking especially her homemade spaghetti sauce and meatballs. She was a 1943 graduate of East High School and enjoyed working her yard. Rachel was a former member of St. Matthias Church and its Infant of Prague Guild and is a current member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica. Her beloved husband Anthony Sammartino whom she married November 28, 1946 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church passed away on April 17, 2002. Rachel leaves behind to hold onto her precious memories a daughter Lenore (Donald) Patrone of Canfield, a son Carmine Sammartino of Youngstown, three grandchildren Carmine Jr. and Anthony Sammartino and Francesca "Pookie" (Charles) Hodge three great grandchildren Dillon McConnell, Jordon Hodge and Brandon Hodge and a brother Francis "Chick" (Virginia) Bellino of Liberty. Besides her parents and husband Rachel was preceded in death by a brother George Bellino and a sister Katherine Blasko. Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday, May 28, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place at Lake Park Cemetery, Youngstown.
