Obituary

Youngstown - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio officiating, preceded by a 9:10 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for Raymond S. Napolitan Sr., 78, of Youngstown, who passed away Thursday afternoon, November 8, 2012, with his loving family by his side. Ray will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his smile and outgoing personality. He was born in the Smokey Hollow part of Youngstown on February 12, 1934 the son of Sal and Frances (Resatar) Napolitan and was a lifelong area resident. Ray was a 1952 graduate of The Rayen High School where he played football. He was employed at Youngstown Building Materials, and then worked as a tile mechanic for Briggs-Jones Inc until the employees purchased the company and it became Briggs & Jones Inc. where he served as a co owner and president. Upon selling the company Ray then was employed at Ryan carpet until his retirement in 1996. Ray was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Union and was a 2 term past president of the Carpenters and Joiners Local Union that was on Rayen Ave. He was a Little League Boys Baseball coach for many years with the Wedgewood Community Club. He was a very active proud and loyal member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Youngstown, where he served his church in many ways. He was a member and 2 term past president of the Vestibule Club, head Usher at the 5 pm mass, worked on the Festival Committee, a adult funeral server, for many years worked the Spaghetti Dinners as a volunteer where he ran the kitchen, and was in charge at the 7 pm mass of the St. Anthony Novena for the people that held the relic along with organizing the procession for the St. Anthony Feast Day Celebration of carrying the bread and statue. Ray was extremely proud of his Italian Heritage and loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren at all their activities. He also enjoyed building cars with is sons and playing bocce. He leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories his beloved wife of over 56 years the former Lilla DiCioccio whom he married on June 23, 1956, his children Raymond S. Jr. (Jody) Napolitan of North Carolina and Lisa Napolitan-DeFuria of Austintown, eight grandchildren Raymond S. III (Elizabeth) Napolitan, Laura Napolitan, Liana, Mariah and Miranda DeFuria, Anthony, Ronnie and Hannah Napolitan two sisters Doris (John) Mikovich of Austintown and Eleanor Russell of Youngstown and a daughter-in-law Vickie Napolitan. Besides his parents Ray was preceded in death by a son Ronald A. Napolitan. Friends may call on Sunday, November 11, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
