Obituary

Poland - There will be a funeral service held on Saturday, November 2, 2013, at 12:00 p.m. at Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church located at 2985 Center Road/S.R. 224 Poland, for Richard "Dick" W. Vogt, 87, of Poland, who passed away at home October 27, surrounded by his loving family from a courageous battle with cancer. Dick was born July 14, 1926 to Arthur and Mildred Wenger Vogt in Massillon, Ohio. His family moved to Boardman in his early childhood. After graduation from Boardman High School where he played football and ran track Dick entered the U.S. Navy where he proudly served in World War II. He earned the rank of Seaman First Class and was awarded the following decorations; the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, the Point System Badge, the American Area Campaign Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal with 1 Bronze Star. After the war, Dick attended Ohio University. Dick was employed at General Fireproofing Company for over 35 years serving in a variety of management positions. He belonged to their golf, baseball and bowling leagues. He also belonged to APEX organization where he held various offices and served on the board of Martin Luther Lutheran Church for many years. Dick coached and umpired Austintown baseball for years and helped build Libby Field. He moved to York, Pennsylvania in 1980 to work at Cole Business Furniture where he then retired. He moved back to Poland, Ohio in 2012 to be closer to his family. Dick will be lovingly remembered for his charismatic personality, sense of humor, generosity, kindness, hard work and his endless energy. Most importantly, though, were his love, devotion and commitment to his family and friends. In addition, Dick was the beloved "adopted" Grandpa to many Poland baseball and basketball families and will be sadly missed by many. On June 12, 1948 he married Josephine Anzivino and they recently celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary. Dick leaves his loving wife, Josephine, a son Rick (Mary Anne) of Hudson, a daughter Judy Vogt White (Chuck) of Poland, his grandchildren Amy Roberts (Scott), Bridget Carlino (Steve), Patrick Vogt (Heather), and Katie Birdwisa (Richard), Brian, Kevin and Eric White, nine great grandchildren along with another due in February. Dick also leaves his brother Bob Vogt (Janet) from Gold Canyon, Arizona, his two brother-in-laws, Eugene Anzivino (Bobbi) and Ernie Anzivino (Rosemary) and many nieces and nephews who considered him to be a Grandpa. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and one great-grandchild Emily Anne Birdwisa.
