Obituary

Liberty - There will be a Mass Christian Burial held on Monday, November 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Edward Church, 240 Tod Lane, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Robert Siffrin officiating for Richard J. Malara, 64, of Youngstown, who passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday morning, November 11, 2011. Richard will always be remembered and loved for the loved he showed to his family and always putting them first in his life. He was born December 21, 1946 in Youngstown the son of Pasquale "Pat" and Irene (Walters) Malara and grew up in Hubbard. He worked with at his father's pizza shop in Hubbard, Pat's pizza where he made the dough since he was 10 years old and was known as the "Doughboy". Richard also worked at General Motors Lordstown and retired after 38 years of service. Richard was a graduate of Hubbard High School along with being a member of St. Edward Church. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned the rank of SP4. He was awarded the following decorations: the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Serve Medal and the Sharpshooter Medal. Richard enjoyed playing cards, hunting, being outdoors and was an avid bowler and football fan especially rooting for his team the Pittsburgh Steelers. He leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories his beloved wife of over 39 years the former Roseann Magnelli whom he married May 6, 1972, a daughter Tricia (Andrew) Young of Parma his pride and joy granddaughter Sophia whom he always babysat and called him "Big", a brother Ted Malara of Hubbard, three sisters Barbara Johnson of Parma, Patricia Alberti and Tina McCann both of Florida, father and mother-in-law Frank (Rosemary) Magnelli which were like his own parents, sister-in-law Maryann (Tom) Joseph of Boardman and a niece Maria Joseph. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Dennis Malara. Family and friends may call on Monday morning, November 14, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. all at St. Edward Church, 240 Tod Lane, Youngstown.
