Robert (Bob) Grove, Jr., 69, of Boardman, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 13, 2014, at the Hospice House in Poland. He was born March 16, 1945, in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of Robert Sr. and Jean Grove. Bob taught 9th grade English at Boardman High School for more than 35 years. Upon his retirement in 2002, Bob continued to substitute teach and tutor as education was one of his lifelong passions. Bob grew up in East Palestine, graduating from East Palestine High School in 1963. He later moved to the Youngstown area and attended Youngstown State University where he earned a B.S. and an M.S. in Education. Bob was a Martha Holden Jennings scholar and also earned a fellowship with the National Endowment for the Humanities in Longwood College, VA, in 1984. He was a faithful servant of The Lord, attending the First Church of Christ in East Palestine where he was an elder and Sunday School teacher for many years. Bob will be remembered by his loving family, which includes his wife of 45 years, Carol (Walkoff), whom he married on June 21,1969; his two daughters, Allyson Grove of The Woodlands, TX, and Dr. Laura B. Grove McCrea (Shawn) of Boardman; and his three granddaughters, Elizabeth, Lila, and Alexis. In addition, he leaves a sister, Susan (Jim) Rowbotham of Struthers and a brother, David Grove (Mary) of Poland. Bob's primary passion was being a husband, father, and grandfather (Baboo). Everyone who knew him would agree that Bob's family meant everything to him. Family and friends may call on Sunday, August 17, 2014 from 3 to 6 p.m., and Monday, August 18, 2014 from 10:30 a.m. until 10:55 a.m. all at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. There will be a funeral service held at Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, on Monday, August 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens, Youngstown. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Cleveland Clinic (Main Campus and Twinsburg) who cared for Bob over the past months during his illness.
