Obituary

Columbiana – Ronald L. "Ron" "Cannon Ball" Cannon, 74, of Columbiana, formerly of Boardman, passed away early Sunday morning June 5, 2016 with his loving family by his side after a short illness. Ron will always be loved and remembered by his family and friends for his easygoing and funny personality. He was born January 12, 1942 in Youngstown, the son of Peter and Evelyn (Pounders) Cannon and was a lifelong area resident. Cannon Ball was in the Class of 1959 at Boardman High School and was of the Baptist faith. Ron was a truck driver for over 40 years and was the proud owner and operator of R & D Trucking from which he retired in 2009. Cannon Ball served his country proudly in the United States Marines where he earned the rank of PFC (E-2) and was stationed throughout the world. His military occupation was heavy equipment operator/engineer and he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He received Honorable Discharge on April 1, 1963. Ron had many passions throughout this life. He enjoyed collecting antique cars and trucks, working outdoors in his barn, cutting the grass, gardening, and traveling to the beach. He also enjoyed NASCAR and his beer, peanuts and corn on the cob. Cannon Ball raced stock cars at Canfield Speedway when he was younger and loved his family dearly, always putting them first. He leaves behind to hold onto his precious memories his beloved wife of over 33 years the former Donna M. Quinn whom he married on July 15, 1982, five sons Joe "Joey" (Teri) Cannon of Boardman, Rick "Ricky" (Lonnie) DeSalvo of Columbiana, Randy (Amy) Cannon of New Middletown, Patrick "Pat" (Renee) Cannon of Vienna and Chris (fiancé Heather Bowers) Cannon of Austintown, 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, a mother-in-law Irene Quinn of Columbiana, two sisters Linda Payne of Youngstown and Cheryl Price of Atlanta, Georgia, and many nieces and nephews. Ron also leaves behind sister-in-law Pattie Bettura and brother-in-law Don Quinn Besides his parents, Ron was preceded in death by a father-in-law A. Donald Quinn Jr. There will be a funeral service held at 11:00 am at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman with Pastor Irv Hoover officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and again on Thursday June 9, 2016 from 10:30 am until 10:50 am all at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the great men and women of the United States Marines and the American Legion Post 0737 from Lake Milton. Elizabeth Hospital - Boardman Campus for all the care and compassion shown to them during this difficult time.
