Boardman - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Friday, January 6, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception-Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, 400 Lincoln Park Drive, celebrated by the Rev. Kevin Peters for Sam F. Ferreri, 91, of Boardman, who peacefully passed away Monday evening, with his loving family by his side. Sam will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends especially for the way that he always put them first in his life. He adored nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was born December 23, 1920 in Youngstown, the son of Frank and Immaculata (Pedulla) Ferreri and was a lifelong area resident. Sam retired after working over 29 years at Truscon Steel Company as a steel worker, He was a 1940 graduate of East High School along with being a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church, its Holy Name Society and the VFW Post #8241on the Eastside. Sam was a United States Army Veteran of World War II where he earned the rank of Technician Fourth Grade and served with Headquarters and Service Company 293rd Engineer Combat Battalion. He received the following decorations and citations: the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal and ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and Ribbon with 1 Silver Service Star, and the World War II Victory Medal and Ribbon. He enjoyed watching all sports, especially baseball and rooting on his favorite team the Cleveland Indians. He also enjoyed playing cards, bowling and golfing. He leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories his beloved wife of over 61 years the former Anne Vansach whom he married January 21, 1950, three children Patty (John) Rafeedie of Canfield, Sam "Butch" (Sue) Ferreri of Poland, and Janice (Ed) Cannistra of Liberty, six grandchildren Christine (Jeremy) Bell, John Rafeedie, Deanna (John) Fulytar, Dan (Sara) Ferreri, and Danielle and Amanda Cannistra, six great grandchildren Tyler B., Sophia, Megan, Ryan, Brandon, and Tyler F., and a Brother Nick (Barb) Ferreri of Youngstown. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Tony and Jim Ferreri and two sisters Mary Neri and Jenny Bossone. Friends may call on Friday, June 6, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. until10:55 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception - Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, 400 Lincoln Park Drive. Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. In lieu of flowers material contributions can be made in Sam's name to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, Ohio 44512.
