Youngstown - There will be a Mass of Christina Burial held on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Church, Boardman, for Samuel "Sam" L. D'Amico who peacefully passed away on Friday evening, January 13, 2012. Sam will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends. He was born October 19, 1918 in Farrell, Pennsylvania, the son of Tomasso and Angeline (Leone) D'Amico, and moved to the Youngstown area as a young man. Sam retired in 1978 from the Youngstown Vindicator Newspaper where he worked in the wire room. He was a member of St. Charles Church and the Newspaper Guild Union along with being the Boy Scout Master of Troop 10 while his sons were young. Sam was a United States Veteran of World War II, where he served in the Merchant Marines on supply ships that traveled to England and Africa along with many other places. He traveled on the Carleton Ellis and the Wyoming Valley Vessels. He was a 1933 graduate of Farrell High School, and earned his Boiler Operations Certificate which made him a qualified Boiler Operator. Sam loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, swimming, walking, camping, boating, skiing, traveling and going on vacations. He leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories his beloved wife of over 71 years the former Ann T. DeCola whom he married November 23, 1940 at St. Patrick Church, Youngstown, three children Robert D'Amico and James (Pamela) D'Amico both of North Jackson, and Virginia "Jean" (Samuel) Lombardo of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, five grandchildren Jessica (Shane) Trask of Maryland, James D'Amico and Julianne D'Amico both North Jackson, Samuel Lombardo and Nicholas Lombardo both of New Kingston, Pennsylvania, a brother Thomas D'Amico and two sisters Eleanor Roth and Marge DeMasy all of Farrell, Pennsylvania. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers Nunzio, Patsy, and Henry D'Amico and a sister Josephine Palis. Friends may call on Monday, January 16, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. all at St. Charles Church, Boardman, 7345 Westview Dr., Boardman. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Austintown. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman.
