RAVENNA — Sandra L. Hazlett, 74, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2026, at her daughter’s home, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born June 20, 1952, in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of Jimmie and Ruth Casto Shaffer.
Sandra was a woman whose faith guided her life and whose selflessness touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. The heart and matriarch of her family, she devoted her life to caring for others, offering kindness, comfort, and unwavering love. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by the people she held dear.
Some of Sandra’s happiest memories were made at Holiday Camplands, where she and her husband operated their concession stand, affectionately known as “Sandi’s,” for many years. She also enjoyed attending church, traveling, and expressing her creativity through crafts. An avid gardener, she was especially known for her beautiful flowers, which reflected the care and beauty she brought into everyday life.
Sandra’s love extended far beyond traditional family ties. She opened her heart and home to many children, helping raise and nurture them as her own. To Sandra, family was never defined solely by blood, but by the love and care people shared.
She is survived by her three children, Roger (Tina) Shaffer of Austintown, Melissa “Missy” Sinkovich of Austintown, and Nikki Hazlett (Megan Pryor) of Ravenna; and her stepdaughter, Melissa Rickerd.
She also leaves behind the children she helped raise and loved as her own: Billy Shaffer of Andover, BJ Shaffer of Youngstown, Brandi Shaffer, and Jaylyn Holmes. She held that same special love for Bryant Shaffer and Shane M. Holmes, who preceded her in death.
Sandra is also survived by her sister, Kim (Larry) Procick of Struthers; her beloved grandchildren, Mike (Elaine Gombas) Shaffer, Carmen (Katelyn) Sinkovich, Makayla (Morgan) Vetter, Roger Shaffer, Sal Shaffer, Kylie Rickerd, Karlessa Rickerd, Jayden Pudder, Kamden Saunders, Aubrey Shaffer, Koryanna Saunders, Mya Shaffer, Ava Hazlett, and Andi Hazlett; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Kamiya Rickerd, Mila Shaffer, Isla Sinkovich, and Milo Shaffer.
She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, along with the countless friends who affectionately called her “Aunt Sandy,” whether related by blood or simply by love. She had a remarkable way of making everyone feel like family.
Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael Hazlett, whom she married on October 31, 1986, and who passed away on March 21, 2023; her brothers, Robert and Jimmie Shaffer; and her sons-in-law, Butch Sinkovich and Fred Rickerd.
Sandra’s greatest legacy is the love she gave so freely and the family she helped shape. Though her presence will be deeply missed, the memories she created and the love she shared will live on through generations.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Youngstown, Ohio 44512. A funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m.
