Youngstown - There will be a funeral service held on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Everlife Worship Center, 474 Early Rd., Youngstown for Sharyl E. Frasier-Everett, 53, of Youngstown, who passed away early Thursday morning on her birthday, February 10, 2011. Sharyl will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends for her big smile, compassion and generosity. She was born in Manhattan, New York, the daughter of Doris Frasier. Sharyl graduated with Honors from East High School in 1976, and attended Youngstown State University. She was a United States Army Veteran where she served during peace time. Sharyl was appointed to the Youngstown Fire Department on November 23, 1981 by Mayor Vukovich and sworn in under Chief Charles Onesti. She was the first woman career firefighter in the State of Ohio, whom served as a firefighter and dispatcher and was then promoted to the rank of Lieutenant/Inspector in September 1991. Sharyl was stationed at 1-A, 7-A, 12-B along with being the dispatcher in 911 Center and retired in 2009. She was a member of the Firefighters Union Local # 312, the Black Knights Auxiliary, a charter member of the Youngstown Association of Black Professional Firefighters, and a charter member of the Mahoning Valley Safe Kids Coalition. Sharyl was instrumental in obtaining the Kneeley Fire Safety Trailer and the Juvenile Fire Setters Program where she was a counselor. She was inducted into the Pioneers among Black Women in October 1986, and was awarded the People who made a Difference Award in January 1996 along with the Life Saving Award from the Kiwanis Club, the United States Senate, Firefighters Union Local 312, and the P.I.F.A. Sharyl enjoyed at home shopping, reading, playing video games and collecting teddy bears and angels. She leaves behind to hold on to her precious memories her husband Ted Everett Sr. whom she married October 9, 2008, a son Ted Everett Jr. at home, a niece whom she raised Jachole Toney of Youngstown, a step daughter Talia Everett of Orlando, Florida, two brothers Derek White and Tod White of Ashville, North Carolina, a sister Lisa White of Baltimore, Maryland, two Goddaughters Yahchika Leonard and La-Tasia Leggins, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her mother she was preceded in death by a sister Michelle White. Friends may call on Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:50 p.m. at the Everlife Worship Center, 474 Early Rd., Youngstown. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place at Belmont Park Cemetery with full military honors provided by the great men of the Trumbull County American Legion.
