Obituary

Canfield - Shirley D. Rankin Weatherall, 77, of Canfield, was granted her angel wings on June 29, 2015. She was a beloved sister, aunt, cousin, and friend who brought joy and wisdom to all who were privileged to have known her. Shirley's journey began November 30, 1937 in Youngstown Ohio, the ninth child of Scott and Thelma Rankin. She graduated from North High School where she was a majorette. She was an active member of New Bethel Baptist Church where she served as an usher and worked in the daycare. She contributed to multiple charities: Operation Smile, various homeless shelters, and especially Easter Seals. Shirley was a published author of poetry. She had a variety of hobbies including bowling and skating. Shirley was the first African American ward clerk at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was employed and retired from Packard Electric. After retirement, she accomplished her dream of opening a daycare.Her greatest joy was caring for children. Her husband Walter Weatherall whom she married on June 30, 1990 died May 9, 2011. Shirley is survived by her siblings, Stanley Rankin, Jane Jenkins, Dorothy Garay, Donald Rankin, Leonard Rankin, Ronald Rankin and Larry Rankin, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her siblings: Frances Jones, Scott Rankin Jr., Jean Stewart, Felix Rankin, Clarence Rankin, and Harold Rankin. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 6, 2015 at 11:00 am at New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St., Youngstown Ohio 44507. Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday, July 6, 2015 from 10:00 am until 10:50 am at New Bethel Baptist Church, Youngstown. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market Street, Youngstown. Burial will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
