Obituary

Austintown – Thomasina Rose (Procco) DeMain, 98, passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, surrounded by her loving family.

Thomasina was born on March 26, 1928, in Youngstown, the daughter of Joseph and Rose (DeMario) Procco, and remained a lifelong area resident.

She was a proud graduate of East High School, where she was a "Golden Bear," and later attended Youngstown State University.

Thomasina retired from Mahoning County Job and Family Services, where she served as a case manager, while also dedicating her life to her family as a devoted homemaker. She was the true matriarch of her family, always placing her loved ones first and cherishing every moment spent with them. An exceptional cook, Thomasina was especially known for her delicious eggplant dishes and her beloved traditional Italian Christmas Eve dinners.

She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica and the Red Hat Society.

Thomasina had many passions throughout her life. She enjoyed shopping and giving gifts to her family, traveling throughout the United States and abroad, and especially treasured her trips to Europe, where she was able to experience her heritage. She loved music and found great joy in singing and dancing. She and her husband even took cowboy dance lessons together, a reflection of their shared zest for life.

On February 7, 1948, Thomasina married the love of her life, Thomas Vincent DeMain. They shared more than 40 wonderful years of marriage until his passing on July 12, 1990.

Thomasina leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved children: Josa (Jack) Ferreri, Nicholas (Patricia) DeMain, Thomas John (Fredda) DeMain, and Rose (Mark) Cook. She was a proud and loving grandmother to eight grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye: Jack (Fiancé Tomasa) Ferreri, Angela (Brad) Quear, Dana (Dan) Metzinger, Nicholas (Kim) DeMain, Mark Cook, Francesca (Alec) Milnes, Vincent Cook, and Lucia Cook; and thirteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Thomasina was preceded in death by her sister, Yolanda Turk, and her three half-brothers, Anthony, James, and Nick Desimone.

Thomasina will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She loved life and lived it to its fullest.
