Youngstown - There will be a funeral service held on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, with Rev. Msgr. John Zuraw officiating for William Roy Curtis, 86, of Youngstown, who passed away earlier Saturday morning, October 15, 2011. Roy will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends. He was born August 18, 1925 in Youngstown the son of William and Edith (Simpson) Curtis and was a lifelong area resident. Roy was a retired employee from the Yannerella Construction Company. He was a graduate of East High School, and enjoyed watching western movies, playing BINGO with his wife Irene, and following local sports especially high school football. Roy was a family man who always enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a United States Navy Veteran during World War II where he earned the rank of Seaman First Class. He was aboard the USS Indiana (BB 58) and was awarded the following decorations and citations; the Good Conduct Medal, the American Area Ribbon, and the Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star. During his military career Roy boxed 47 Amateur matches winning all of them in every flight along with the Fleet Welterweight and middleweight Division Titles. His wife the former Irene Slaina whom he married in 1950 died June of 2006. He leaves behind to hold on to his precious memories his four children Gary (Carrie) of Youngstown, Bob (Jenna) of Campbell, Edith "Edie" (John) of Youngstown and Maribeth Veronica (Raymond) of Austintown, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and a brother John (Carole) Miller of New Middletown. Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a son William "Bill" James Curtis who passed away April of 2011, a brother Robert S. Curtis and granddaughter Angelique B. Moore. Friends may call on Monday, October 17, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, October 18, 2011 from 10:30 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. all at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, where full military honors will be provided by the great men of the Trumbull County American Legion following the service.
