Joliet, IL- A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10am Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 in St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church in Youngstown for William "Scott" Newman, 40, of Joliet, Illinois, formerly of Youngstown, who passed away after a short illness on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013 in St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, where he resided for the past eight years. He was born December 15, 1972 in Youngstown, the son of Clifford and Josephine (Soloski) Newman. He was a 1992 graduate of Boardman High School. He then attended Youngstown State University for two years prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army where he served actively for three years as a unit supply specialist and in the reserves for five additional years. While in the service, Scott served in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for nine months before being honorably discharged. He enjoyed art, attending school for graphic art design for a time, and playing video games. Scott was a kind and gentle man and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his mother and father of Boardman; and two sisters; Ms. Sabrina Newman of Nashville, TN and Mrs. April (Luke) Murry of Columbus. He also leaves behind his maternal grandparents, William and Rosalia Soloski; his paternal grandmother, Cecilia Newman; a great aunt, Aggie Farster; his uncles, William (Barbara) Soloski, John (Kathy) Soloski, and Clayton (Janet) Newman; and his cousins; Michael Soloski, and Christopher, Katie and Hannah Newman. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Stella "Maga" Soloski and his grandfather, Ervin "Poppy" Newman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project in Scott's memory. In keeping with the family's wishes there will be no calling hours. Professional services have been entrusted to the care of the Rossi Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St.,Boardman.
