Boardman - Aleda (Beshara) Bukovinsky, 100, died peacefully on Thursday September 5, 2024, at The Hospice of the Valley, with her loving family by her side.
Aleda was born to Lebanese Immigrant parents, Saada Thomas and Michael Beshara on October 31, 1923 at home, at 84 S. Lane Avenue, on Youngstown’s Eastside. She was raised in a loving home with her parents, maternal grandmother and four brothers: Joe, Harry, Richard and Sam; and her sister, Rema. (all deceased). She attended Shehy Street Elementary School, Lincoln Middle School and graduated in the Fall of 1942 from East High School, all on the city’s eastside.
After graduating high school, Aleda contributed to the WW II effort as a worker in several steel and manufacturing plants dedicated to war production. After the war, she worked at the Youngstown General Electric Lamp Plant on Hughes Street, leaving the workforce to raise her family. In 1971, Aleda rejoined the workforce at General Motors - Fisher Body Metal Fabricating Plant in Lordstown, Ohio, and retired after 18 years of service in 1989. She was a proud member of UAW Local 1714.
Aleda was an avid poker player and enjoyed playing cards over the years with several groups. She walked every morning for several years at the Southern Park mall, where she met many friends. Aleda stopped mall walking in her late 90s.
Throughout the years, Aleda enjoyed preparing turkey with stuffing for all extended family Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter holiday gatherings. Her cooking expertise also included several delicious Lebanese dishes. Aleda was also known for baking birthday cakes for family, and her special recipe anise pizzelles.
Above all, Aleda loved spending time with her family, and never wanted to miss an opportunity to participate in and attend special occasions and events. She was happiest when socializing with family and friends at Saint Maron’s and at The Shrine.
Aleda was an active lifelong member of Saint Maron Church, Youngstown, Ohio, belonging to the Saint Tobias Society, and The Silver Bullets senior group. She was a founder and supporter of The Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon in North Jackson, Ohio, where she belonged to the “25 Club” since it’s inception.
Aleda married Joseph Bukovinsky on February 7, 1950 and they enjoyed 54 years of marriage until his passing on March 28, 2004. Together they raised three children: Jo Ann (Lawrence) Stephan, Lakeland Florida; Harry R. (Kathy) Bukovinsky, Boardman, Ohio; and John M. Bukovinsky with whom she shared a home, and was her loving and dedicated caregiver, in Boardman. Aleda was the proud grandmother of Kathleen (Pete Pyles) Lester of East Liverpool, Ohio, Maria (Suzette Borosko) Bukovinsky of Cleveland, Ohio, Joseph (Megan) Bukovinsky of Akron, Ohio, and John (Danielle) Bukovinsky of Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was blessed with five great-grandchildren: Myranda (Tristan) Kile, Caden West, John Bukovinsky, Jr., Reagan Bukovinsky, and Jocelyn Bukovinsky, all of whom cherished and loved their “Mama”. Aleda also leaves her beloved sister-in-law, Margo Beshara of Canfield, and several loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Aleda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her siblings, an infant daughter, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may pay their respects to Aleda on Monday morning, September 9, 2024 from 10:00 am until 10:50 am at St. Maron Maronite Catholic Church, 1555 S. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
There will be a Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial held on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 11:00 am with Father Tony Massad as officiant and close family friend, Chorbishop Donald J. Sawyer, D. MIn. of Austin, Texas will con-celebrate the liturgy. The funeral will also be livestreamed on St. Maron’s Facebook page for those who are unable to attend the services in person.
Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Austintown.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.
