Columbiana – Alice J. Hungerford, 96, of Columbiana, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, February 3, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.
Alice will always be remembered for her love, compassion and generosity as well as being a great wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.
She was born January 27, 1929 in Youngstown, the daughter of Clemens E. and Cecelia Mae (Cummins) McDermott and was a lifelong area resident.
Alice was a proud homemaker and the true matriarch for her family. She always made her family her top priority and loved spending time with them, especially for the holidays. Her family will miss all her excellent cooking, especially the Sunday roast beef dinners at her home.
Alice had many passions throughout her life. She enjoyed crocheting, tap dancing with her father, doing ceramics and bowling at Holiday Bowl. She also enjoyed playing cards and was a lover of music, especially of country and of the big band era.
Her husband of over 48 years Roy E. Hungerford Sr. whom she married February 7, 1947 passed away on March 3, 1995.
She leaves behind to hold onto to her memories her two sons Gary (Ellen) Hungerford of Las Vegas Nevada and Rick (Tammy Renfro) Hungerford with whom she made her home, a son-in-law Ed Dolby of Poland and a daughter-in-law Rosemary Hungerford of Las Vegas, Nevada, her beloved nine grandchildren, her thirteen great grandchildren who were the apple of her eye, and a brother Don McDermott of Boardman along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Alice was preceded in death by her daughter Bonnie Dolby, her son Roy Hungerford Jr. and two brothers Bill McDermott and Larry McDermott.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 9:30 am until 10:50 am at Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestview Dr., Boardman, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Richard Kidd as celebrant.
Burial will take place at Lake Park Cemetery, Youngstown.
Arrangements were entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.
