Columbiana - Alice Loretta (Mike) Rohan,93, passed away at home with family by her side on February 28, 2025.
She was born on August 8, 1931 on the east side of Youngstown to the late Ablen and Anna Mike. She graduated from East High School in 1949 and was a proud member of the East High National Honor Society. Soon after graduation, she met the love of her life, George Rohan, and they were married on November 14.1953 in St. Maron’s Church on Shehy. They started their family the following year and Alice started her full-time job of being a mom that very same year. Over the past 70 years, she was the glue that kept her family together.
Alice was a faithful and devoted catholic that attended St. Maron’s Church regularly until she was no longer able. Then she watched mass every Saturday on her I-Pad. Her daily routine included watching the Catholic Channel for mass and then the rosary with Mother Angelica. She was a pillar of the church, a member of the church’s St Tobias Society as well as the Silver Bullets. She along with her husband were founders and supporters of The Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon, where she was a member of the 25 Club since its inception.
In her free time, Alice enjoyed playing cards with her sister and sister-in-law, playing many games on her I-Pad, reading books, watching The Price is Right and Let’s Make a Deal, but most of all having all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at her house for visits and dinner. No one ever left her house hungry or unwelcome as everyone was treated like family, and she was known as “Sitto” to everyone who came to her house.
Alice loved to cook and host family and friends at home every Sunday. Some of her favorite delicious dinners included baked kibbee, tabbouleh, humus, homemade cheese, luban but most of all Christmas pizzelles with her granddaughters and great-granddaughters. No crowd was big enough and there were always leftovers for everyone to take home with them. Many of these recipes have been collected and put into a family book by her granddaughters to cherish forever.
She leaves behind her six sons George (Gerri), Jim (Tracy), Ed (JoAnn), Ken (Rita), Mike (Lisa) and Steve (Erica), fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren with two more on the way this summer. She also leaves behind her sister, Liz Manser, sisters-in-law Theresa Mike, Frieda Rohan and Clara Donchatz.
She was preceded in death by her husband George in 2020, who was her everything. She was also preceded by her brothers Joe, Mike and Tom and sisters Mary Dohar and Theresa Simon as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law. She was especially welcomed and greeted at the gates of heaven by her grandson William George Rohan.
Family and friends may pay their respects to Alice on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 3:00 pm until 6:30 pm in the Antioch Hall at St. Maron Maronite Church, 1555 S. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
There will be a Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial held on Thursday evening, March 6, 2025 at 7:00 pm with Father Tony Massad as officiant. The funeral will also be livestreamed on St. Maron’s Facebook page for those who are unable to attend the services in person.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.
Private burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the excellent care and patience shown to their feisty mom over the past several years by Dr Patrick Brine and Dr Ashlee Russo. She was especially thankful to her daily care-givers Cynthia, Lottie, Kathy, and Jill.
