Youngstown - Anna May “Gagaruk” Hanni, age 73 of Youngstown, died surrounded by loving family and friends.
She was born in Egavick, Alaska on May 2, 1951 and was the 2nd of 5 children to Frances and Harold Charles.
She grew up in Unalakleet , Alaska where she graduated from Covenant High School in 1970. That Fall she traveled from her small village to Lawrence, Kansas, where she attended Haskell Indian Nations University. There she earned her associate’s degree in nutrition and met her loving husband, Robin. Anna was a military wife and has traveled the world.
She enjoyed reading, traveling, experiencing new things, spending time with family and working in her backyard gardening and observing nature. She loved watching the birds and was both proud and protective of the robin that nested on her porch. Anna attended Christ Our Savior Parish in Struthers, Ohio and was a devoted Catholic. She leaves her legacy of faith and love to her five grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robin; her daughter, Kim (Jarrod) Vrabel, and her son Brent (Holly) Hanni; her granddaughters (Vanessa and Maria) and her grandsons (Anthony, Ethan, and Noah); her sisters Iris (Bill) Hopkins and Alice Fuerstenau. As well as a multitude of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Harold and Frances Charles, her brother Harold ‘Hoss’ Charles Jr., and her sister Maggie Ferry.
Family and friends may pay their respects to Anna on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 from 10:00 am until 10:50 am at Christ Our Savior Parish-St. Nicholas Church, 764 5th Ave., Struthers, where a funeral mass will take place at 11:00 am.
Many thanks to the family and friends who showed their unwavering, strong support in the days leading up to and following her death and celebration of life.
We will miss her smile and her love and her patience, her kindness and her presence, and her faith, her baking and cooking, and her wisdom and strength. Peace to her memory.
