Youngstown –Anthony Frank “Tony” Pizzuto Sr., 89, of Youngstown passed away on Tuesday morning May 20, 2025 at Briarfield at Ashley Circle.
Tony was born on June 13, 1935 in Youngstown, OH, a son of Nicholas and Josephine ( Mauro) Pizzuto.
Tony was a 1952 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, where he played trumpet in the band, and then went on to work for Ohio Contracting. He later had a lengthy career in trucking, starting out with R&J trucking for several years and then owning and operating A. Pizzuto Trucking. Tony retired at age 84, while still driving his own truck, which he leased back to R&J trucking, where he worked most of his life. Tony’s work ethic was noticed by all who knew him and was passed down to his sons.
Outside of work, Tony enjoyed traveling the country on his motorcycle, fishing with his family at Lake Erie and playing Bingo with his wife, Mary Ann. He also enjoyed playing the accordion and polka dancing. Tony liked to reminisce about cherished times spent with his family, like making wine with his brothers, traveling to Calabria with his siblings or enjoying the company of his dog, Nino. Most of all, Tony loved and cherished his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His loving presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Tony will always be remembered by his three sons, Nicholas (Maribeth) Pizzuto of New Middletown, Anthony Jr. (Stephanie) Pizzuto of North Jackson and Steve (Patti) Pizzuto of Virginia; eight grandchildren, Alexandra (Mark) Popovec, Nicolette (Conner) Seeman, Santino Pizzuto, Vincent (Gabrielle) Pizzuto, Anjelika (Robbie) Postlethwaite, Anthony D. Pizzuto (Brianna) and Chelsea Pizzuto and Brianna (Patrick) McCaul; three great granddaughters, Amelia, Paisley and Mary Ann and sister, Ange Cercone of Birmingham, Alabama.
Besides his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his wife of over 62 years, Mary Ann (Katros) Pizzuto, whom he married on September 15, 1956 at St. Stanislaus Church and siblings, Joe Pizzuto, Lucy Cucchiaro, John Pizzuto, Louie Pizzuto and Mike Pizzuto.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday evening, May 29, 2025 from 5 to 7pm at the Rossi & Son Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street Boardman, OH 44512.
Additional calling hours will be on Friday morning, May 30 from 9 to 9:50 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mt. Carmel, Youngstown.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at the church at 10am with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.
Entombment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Austintown.
In lieu of flowers, material contributions can be made in Tony’s name to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mt. Carmel, Youngstown, Ohio 44505.
