Boardman – Catherine S. D’Apolito, 96, of Boardman passed away peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, February 19, 2025, with her loving family by her side.
Catherine was born November 27, 1928, in the Briar Hill area of Youngstown. She was the daughter of Egidio and Carolina (DiPaolo) Modarelli and graduated from The Rayen High School.
She met Frank R. D’Apolito in 1950 at Avon Oaks Ballroom, and they were married on November 29, 1952.
Catherine will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She found joy in spending time with those she loved, especially visiting with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Catherine’s kindness, generosity, intelligence, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves behind her husband of over 72 years, Frank; her children, Phyllis (Joseph) Messuri, Frank A. (Valerie) D’Apolito, Anthony D’Apolito, and David D’Apolito; her grandchildren, Kristin (Jacob), Samantha (Daniel), Mark (Julie), Joseph (Beth), Alli, Christopher, and Gianna (Ritvik); and her great-grandchildren, Viviana, Cayden, Callen, Carmen, Norah, and Andi; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Besides her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her brothers, Nicholas, Anthony, Joseph, Dominic “Dee Dee,” Rocco, John, and Gene, and sisters, Rose Milano and Mary Lou Modarelli.
Friends and family may pay their respects to Catherine on Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.
There will be additional calling hours on Monday, February 24, 2025, from 9:00 am until 9:50 am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1125 Turin Ave., Youngstown, where a funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 am with Father Vincent De Lucia O.P. as celebrant.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown.
Catherine’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. John Gianetti and his medical assistant Laura for the care and compassion they provided to Catherine.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that all donations be sent in her name to Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley, 1300 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Youngstown.
