Youngstown – Cheryl L. Johnstone, 68, of Youngstown, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, July 23, 2025, with her loving family by her side.
Cheryl was born December 7, 1956, in Youngstown, the daughter of Desmond and Helen Green. A lifelong area resident, she was a 1974 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School.
Cheryl was a proud homemaker and also worked for the City of Youngstown, where she took great pride in cleaning many of the city’s governmental buildings. Family was always at the center of her life—her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren, especially while cooking her famous spaghetti sauce and ribs for them.
She had a love for yard work and took great care in keeping her outdoor space meticulous. Cheryl will be remembered most for her radiant smile, her sociable and generous spirit, and the way she could light up any room. She never met a stranger and always put others before herself.
Cheryl leaves behind her son, James (Sarah) Johnstone; six cherished grandchildren: Ryley Grace, Hayley Rose, Brayden James, Amber, Steven, and Vinnie Johnstone; her longtime companion, James Cappelli; two brothers, Robert (Bernie) Green and William (Susan) Green; her beloved cat, Nala; and many dear nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Richard Johnstone Jr.; and her former husband, Richard Johnstone Sr.
Family and friends may pay their respects to Cheryl on Sunday, July 27, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman.
Cheryl’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at Hampton Woodlands for the compassion and care they provided during this difficult time.
