Eleanor P. (Butler) Johnson

Youngstown – Eleanor P. Johnson, 95, of Youngstown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, February 4, 2025 with her loving family by her side.   

She was born in Youngstown on November 5, 1929, the daughter of Richard and Magdalene (Balch) Butler. Eleanor was a lifelong area resident and graduated from South High School.

Besides being a proud homemaker, Eleanor was employed as a secretary for over 12 years at Boardman High School in the library. She was a true matriarch and always made her family her top priority. She had a soft spot for her grandchildren and great grandchildren and always looked forward to spending time with them. She also enjoyed spending time with her husband, Andrew, and they would go camping and to all kinds of auctions together. Eleanor also was an excellent cook and baker and her family will miss her homemade pies and strawberry jam which she shared with her family and neighbors. She always had an impeccable yard and enjoyed gardening along with riding her lawn tractor until the age of 90.

Her husband of over 58 years Andrew R. Johnson Jr. whom she married November 13, 1950 passed away on June 14, 2009.

Eleanor leaves behind to hold onto her memories, her beloved son Andrew III (Cheryl) Johnson of North Lima, her grandchildren whom she adored Brad (Katie) Johnson, Christopher (Elle) Johnson, Christine (Charlie) Crawford and Jimmy (Amy) Halls, eleven great grandchildren and her beloved grand-dog Cooper along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.   

Besides her parents and husband, Eleanor was preceded in death by two daughters Susan Halls and Linda Rae Johnson, her siblings Richard Butler and Joan M. Haas Jackson.  

Family and friends may pay their respects to Eleanor on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 11:00 am until 11:55 am at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman, where a memorial service will take place at 12:00 pm with Pastor Rusty Wills as celebrant.

Private burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Boardman.

Eleanor’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the entire staff of Heartland Hospice for all the wonderful care and compassion shown to them and to Eleanor throughout this difficult time.
