Boardman – Francis E. Olenick, 79, of Boardman, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, January 20, 2024.
He was born December 9, 1944 in Youngstown, the son of John and Bertha Olenick. Francis was proud to have grown up on the East Side and was a lifelong area resident.
He graduated from East High School as a “Golden Bear” and then proudly served our country in the United States Army. Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge on September 15, 1970, Francis attended Youngstown State University for a few years before entering the work force. He found his career that lasted over 40 years as a conductor for the railroad which began with the Pennsylvania Railroad and later became Chessie and currently is CSX where he retired from in 2004.
Francis was a member of the Saxon Club and loved playing Bocce along with socializing with family and friends. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, taking vacations and dancing with his beloved wife. He also enjoyed watching sports and was n big Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He will always be remembered for ability to tell a great joke along with his sense of humor. Francis had many passions throughout his life and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, socializing with his family and friends and listening to music especially the Beach Boys and Rod Stewart.
Francis leaves behind to hold onto his memories his wife of over 40 years the former Marjorie LaTorre whom he married November 26, 1983, a step son Robert (April) Watson of Austintown, his step grandchildren Bobby (Stephanie) Watson of Florida, Alex Watson of Mineral Ridge and Alexis Watson of Austintown and a step great grandson Oliver. Francis also leaves behind his beloved Yorkipoo Bella and his brother John (Marlene) Olenick of North Carolina along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Maryann Williams.
Francis’s wishes were to have a caring cremation with no calling hours or services.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.
Francis’s family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the Rehab Unit at Hampton Woods and the entire staff of Hospice House for all the excellent care and compassion shown to Francis and them throughout this difficult process.
