John Marsco Obituary

Youngstown – John D. Marsco, 72, of Youngstown, passed away on Saturday morning, April 6, 2024 with his family by his side.

John was born October 1, 1951 in Youngstown, the son of Donald and Pauline (Priore) Marsco and was a lifelong area resident.

John graduated from Ursuline High School in 1969 and then attended Youngstown State University. He continued his studies at Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science where he graduated with his bachelor’s degree of Mortuary Science.

John completed his apprenticeship and upon passing his boards became a licensed funeral director and embalmer in the State of Ohio where he began his career at Davidson Becker Funeral Home. John then found employment with Copperweld Steel Company for over 20 years and his last position was superintendent of the transportation department before he was forced to retire because of its closing in 2001. John has always kept his funeral director and embalmers license current up until the last couple of years and helped at various funeral homes throughout the Mahoning Valley. Even in retirement John wanted to stay busy so he worked as a grounder’s keeper for Youngstown State University for many years.

John was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus being a member of the Immacolata Youngstown Council 274 and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Assembly 3760.

John had a passion for being outdoors. He enjoyed cutting the grass, boating, and taking day trips, but he especially loved to travel to the Dominican Republic and spending time in Punta Cana.

John leaves behind to hold onto his memories three children Jason (Shannon) Marsco of Youngstown, Kristin (Frank) Jarome of Niles and Jennifer (Gary) Goodrick of Hubbard, eight grandchildren Alexis (Tim) Mezakowski, Adrianna and Luciano Marsco, Daniel and Owen Jarome, and Alex, Grayson, and Jaxson Goodrick, ten great grandchildren, a brother Vito (Sandy) Marsco of Girard and a sister Rosemary (Maria Ciletti) Marsco of Niles, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents.
