Joseph Hayek Obituary

Canfield – There will be a Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial held on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.  at St. Maron Church, 1555 S.   Meridian, Rd., Youngstown, with Chor Bishop Michael Kail officiating for Joseph M. Hayek, 86, of Canfield, who peacefully passed away early Wednesday, morning, January 9, 2019 with his loving family by his side.

Joe will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his sense of humor, smile and generosity.

He was born October 20, 1932 in Bijjeh, Lebanon, the son of Michael and Basma (Youssef) Hayek and came to the United States in 1968.

Joe always had a strong work ethic and began his career as a carpet estimator for McKelvey’s Department Store. In 1971, Joe started his career at General Motors, Lordstown Plant retiring in 1991 from the quality control division and owned and operated Concord Window Blinds for 25 years.

Joe was a member of the UAW Local 1112, St. Maron Church, its St. Tobias Society, the Knights of St, Maron, and was founder of the Bijjeh Club where he served as past president and was extremely active in their fundraising campaigns.

Joe had many enjoyments throughout his life. He enjoyed gardening, watching Sunday NFL football, hunting and traveling back to Lebanon to visit relatives and friends.

Joe was a true patriarch for his family and looked forward to every Saturday when family and friends gathered together at his home. While living in Lebanon he helped raise his nieces and nephews upon his brothers passing away and they became very successful in their lives which was an attribute to Joe.

Joe leaves behind to hold onto his memories his wife of over 52 years the former Rosette Marianne Hayek whom he married July 30, 1966 at Our Lady of Lebanon Shrine, Harissa Lebanon, his son David J. Hayek of California, who will deeply miss him, two sisters Nadia Hayek and Faridi Hayek and three sister-in-laws all of Lebanon, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends here in the United States and in Lebanon.

Besides his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by a son Phillip Hayek, three brothers Nassif, Phillipe and Raymond Hayek and a sister Heind Mikael.
