Luis D. Villaplana

Youngstown – Luis Daniel Villaplana Vazquez, 99, of Austintown passed away on Tuesday morning, September 24, 2024 at Hospice House.

Luis was born on November 1, 1924 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, a son of Luis and Petra (Vazquez) Villaplana.

Following High School, Luis enlisted in the United States Army. Serving during World War II, he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and an honorable discharge.

Upon returning home, Luis had a successful career in banking and eventually retired as a supervisor in oil refinement.

Outside of work, Luis loved baseball. He was a huge fan of Roberto Clemente and enjoyed watching baseball as much as he could. Luis was a very caring and giving man. He often put himself before others, especially when it came to his family. Luis cherished the times he spent with his loved ones and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Luis will always be remembered by his wife of 75 years, Ulreka (Canals) Villaplana; daughter, Isabel Villaplana of Austintown; son, Jose “Tony” Villaplana; grandchildren, Beverly (Juan) Armendariz, Solange Villaplana, Justina (Andrew) Frasco, Luis Miguel (Kayla) Villaplana, Emilio Villaplana (Xya Taylor), Gabrielle Villaplana (Jordan Markota), Natalia (Ky) Shaw and Jose Ignacio Villaplana; great grandchildren, Anthony Frasco, Luis Michael and Luca Villaplana, Xenna Villaplana, Aydan Armendariz and Stella Shaw and many loved nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Luis was preceded in death by his two sisters and three brothers

Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Luis on Thursday evening, September 26, 2024 from 4 to 7pm at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 11am at St. Christine Parish, 3165 S Schenley Ave, Youngstown, OH 4451. Everyone is asked to meet at the Church.
