Robert "Spratt" Pernotto

December 31, 1942 ~ December 9, 2016 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Campbell - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mt. Carmel, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio officiating, for Robert “Spratt” Pernotto, 73, of Campbell, who passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, December 9, 2016, after an 18-month courageous battle with cancer with his loving family by his side.

Spratt will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for being a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. People have said he was part Al Pacino with the sense of humor of Joe Pesci.

He was born December 31, 1942 in Youngstown, the son of Luke and Elizabeth (Hallahan) Pernotto and was a lifelong resident.

Spratt was a proud graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School Class of 1960 and attended Youngstown State University where he was an extremely proud member of the Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity. Spratt then earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Kent State University and his Master’s in Education Degree from Westminster University.

Bob was employed as a teacher for over 37 years and retired in 1999. He served for many years in the Youngstown School System. He taught at East High School and then later at Adams Middle School where he was the Athletic Director and coach of all the girls sporting teams, which won numerous awards.

Spratt was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica and was an amazing musician mostly playing the drums. He was a member of the Penn Ohio Polka Pals, and had his own band “The Reflections”. One of his proudest moments was being on an album that was nominated for a Grammy Award and also for all the family weddings he was known for singing “Cene Luna”.

He had many passions throughout this lifetime. Spratt enjoyed woodworking and loved spending time with his family and especially his grandsons.

He leaves behind his beloved wife the former Delores “Dee” Castor whom he married August 6, 1966 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. They celebrated with family and friends their 50th anniversary last August which he was so proud of. He also leaves behind his beloved sons Carl (Candida) Pernotto and Robert “Bob” (Lori) Pernotto both of Columbus, his three grandsons that were the apple of his eye Vinny, Dominic and Anthony, three brothers Dennis (Sandra) Pernotto of Louisiana, James Pernotto of Youngstown and Michael (Lora) Pernotto of Canfield, along with many close nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
